Kaw Permaculture provides educational services to the community by hosting courses and workshops in permaculture design, edible forest design, cultivation of medicinal herbs and organic vegetable crop production. Our lead instructor, Steve Moring, has been teaching extended 15-week Permaculture Design Certification (PDC) Courses since 2009 in the Lawrence and Kansas City area. In 2017, he will be teaching for the sixth year, a college accredited PDC through the University of Kansas in its Environmental Studies Program. We will also be independently offering a spring PDC to the general public that will taught concurrently with a KU course. These PDC courses consist of a minimum of 72 hours of classroom instruction, hands-on fieldwork and practicum sessions, and culminate with certification through the Kansas Permaculture Institute.
Courses and Workshops for 2017
The Fall KU PDC will begin August 24, 2017 and will continue every Thursday evening and Saturday through December 2. This course is offered through the University of Kansas Environmental Studies Program (EVRN 338), and consists of 16 classroom lecture and field sessions, and four, one day practicum sessions (a total of 6 credit hours). This Permaculture Design Course consists of consecutive weeks of quality training in theory and methodology of restorative agriculture and sustainable living with emphasis on demonstration of applications and hands-on field work activities. In addition to classroom instruction, there will be field trips and design charettes at a variety of urban and broad-acre farm sites, some which have been practicing principles of ecological agriculture for decades. For information regarding enrollment, contact KU Environmental Studies, and KU non-degree student admissions. Deadline for application for admission for the fall semester is Aug. 7.
